Achieve less apnoeas even whilst using a CPAP
Louise, a 50 year old woman , came to me exhausted, complaining that she had given up using her CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure machine), as she was just too stressed and too tired. Her sleep study had put her in the severe category for sleep apnoea.
She was running a cleaning business and a family, was unfit, overweight and even when she did attempt to use her CPAP she would awake with the mask not on her face but under the pillow. This is common with sleep apnoea clients , as time goes by compliance markedly reduces to 50% or less. This is a catch 22 situation, as if they used the breathing apparatus every night, they would sleep better and wake up feeling better!
I started treating Louise, and from after the first treatment her computer readout showed a much better quality of sleep, i.e fewer apnoeas. And she was back using the machine! She started to feel better and was more tolerant of the machine each night. Even though her stress levels haven’t reduced, she is coping better with the stress life is throwing at her.
