Do you love your pillow? This is what I ask each client on their first visit. Unless you love your pillow, chances are it’s not the right pillow for you. But how to choose the right pillow?
Firstly, I check your sleeping position. You must sleep on your side. Right side or left side, preferably both. Not your back nor on your tummy. The correct pillow is not too soft nor too hard. It must bridge the gap between your neck and tip of your shoulder. If the pillow is too thin, your head will tilt downwards. If it’s too high, your head will tilt upwards. Your head must be in alignment with your spine, not tilted at all.
Many of my clients will tell me all about their pillows. Often they will change pillows during the night. Sometimes they sleep with 2 or more pillows. Quickly I like to set the record straight. No more than one pillow, and if you have the correct pillow for you, you will need to take it on holidays with you! Don’t risk waking up with a sore neck just because you are away from home.
I recommend a contour pillow. Chemical free is also a great choice. Latex is as natural as it gets, stay away from chemicals!
