Relieving Knee & Back Pain
I started treating Matthew in 2006. He came to me with back pain and knee pain. From the first few Craniosacral Therapy sessions, Matthew noticed he wasn’t breathing through his nose. I questioned him about his mouth breathing and discussed the benefits of learning to breathe through his nose (including better sleep quality, improved circulation and lower levels of anxiety and stress) and how a course in CranioSacral Therapy could help with this. He said he couldn’t ever remember breathing through his nose.
Becoming A Natural Nose-Breather
We started a course of CranioSacral Therapy and over the next few months he started noticing he was spending more of the day and eventually more of the night breathing through his nose. Now he is a ‘natural nose breather.’ Many people go through much of their lives unable to breathe through their noses. Many people aren’t aware they are breathing through their mouth. Mouth breathing ” makes you go crazy” according to yoga gurus. Mouth breathing affects teeth alignment, especially in growing children. Breathing through your nose filters allergens, reducing allergies, asthma and illness. Breathing through your nose slows the breathing down. This in turn slows the mind down and goes a long way to reducing anxiety and stress.
Improved Well-Being and Lower Anxiety Levels
Through the course of his CranioSacral treatment he has also noticed improvements in his circulation and stress and anxiety levels. His digestion has improved, quality of sleep and general flexibility has improved. Matthew leads a fast paced life with a stressful job. He continues to come for maintenance treatments to keep his body in alignment. He keeps reminding me of all the ways the Craniosacral therapy has benefited him. He has learnt about sleeping posture. He has purchased a high quality pillow, that he takes on all his trips away. Also his body awareness and posture have improved.
